The Eclipse (2009)

Director / Writer: Conor McPherson

In a seaside Irish town, a widower sparks with a visiting horror novelist while he also begins to believe he is seeing ghosts.

Jon Says: Widely unseen in the US, this is a very smart ghost film with a fantastic performance by Ciaran Hinds.

Official Trailer:

TiMer (2009)

Director / Writer: Jac Schaeffer

If a clock could count down to the moment you meet your soul mate, would you want to know?

Jon Says: Buffy Alert!  Fan Favorite Emma Caulfield (Anya) is charming in the lead role!

Official Trailer:

Pontypool (2008)

Director: Bruce McDonald

Writer: Tony Burgess (based off his novel)

A psychological thriller in which a deadly virus infects a small Ontario town.

Jon Says: A zombie film about language. Or, maybe a language film with zombies. Either way, I fucking love this movie!  Two great performances (Stephen McHattie and Lisa Houle). The entire film takes place in a small town radio station as they keep getting reports about ... something happening in town.

Official Trailer:

The Disappearance of Alice Creed (2009)

Director / Writer: J Blakeson

A rich man's daughter is held captive in an abandoned apartment by two former convicts who abducted her and hold her ransom in exchange for her father's money.

Jon Says: Very clever.  Very fun. A movie with a knife behind every smile.

Official Trailer:

EDIT: I removed the official trailer because it gave too much away.

Black Death (2010)

Director: Christopher Smith

Writer: Dario Poloni

Set during the time of the first outbreak of bubonic plague in England, a young monk is given the task of learning the truth about reports of people being brought back to life in a small village.

Jon Says: Sean Bean in a brutally vicious, dark fantasy film!  Only, you know ... it's not Game of Thrones so he might actually survive to the end!

Safety Not Guaranteed (2012)

Director: Colin Treverrow

Writer: Derek Connolly

Three magazine employees head out on an assignment to interview a guy who placed a classified ad seeking a companion for time travel.

Jon Says: Well written and delightful.  I loved the classified ad!  I would have totally responded!
