The Jester War of Perpalon

The GM: Jon

The Characters:

RayKal-el
RayNankin

Game System: Dungeons & Dragons

Game Type: Campaign

Synopsis: The poor village of Perpalon has been overrun with jesters! From all over the lands jester are flocking to the village in search of a legendary artifact, The Rag Shield of Rudolph. Perpalon is only poplulation 807, it can't be hidden very well, eh? A mini campaign designed to answer the age old question: Is comedy really this hard? OR: Where the hell did all these wererats come from?

Memorable Moments:

GM Notes: I had recently bought a copy of The Best of Dragon Magazine vol III (or IV?) Whichever volume had the new character class: Jester. I mean...JESTER! Clearly, I knew what had to be done. Triology! So, I created the ultimate arch-non villain: Jerry, an 8th level Kender Jester.

Jerry helped Kal-el and Nankin solve the mystery of Perpalon (Wererats ruled the town) and eventually, the three of them found the Rag Shield of Rudolph: A multi-colored cloth one could wrap around. It acted as a +5 Shield. Absorbed magic missles within a 20' radius. Gave MR 25 to the wearer and cast continual light (with a slight redish haze) twice a day. It was a shield that Jesters could use (Jesters were not allowed the use of a shield as a class restriction).

As far as artifacts go, it was pretty tame. I suckered Ray into creating a fued between Kal-el and Jerry. I made sure the artifact was not class specific. Even though it was, kind of, a Jester artifact. Anyone could use it. And since I knew {Kal-el] was a bastard, I figured he would try and keep the Rag Shield and not let Jerry have it.

Well, Kal-el, being the bastard that he was, decided he was going to keep the artifact instead of letting Jerry have it (Let's face it, it's a +5 shield that has no weight and leaves your off hand free to weild a second weapon! It's an awsome fighter shield! But it's clearly a Jester shield so...). Jerry was outraged and eventually had to steal the artifact away from Kal-el.

This created a fued between the two that lasted for a long time.

Sequel: Jerryland
