Character Creation Rules

  • A max two obsidimen can be in the party.
  • No one can start as a Sky Raider since there aren't any in the kaer. The other 14 basic disciplines are available.
  • Dwarfs cannot be illusionists.
  • You will be starting in Kaer Ardanyan which has not opened yet.
  • Magicians will not start with any spell matrices. They are a post-Scourge creation and your kaer has no access to any knowledge from after the Scourge.
  • When making your character, please come up with a list of family and friends and your relationship with them. You are locked in an underground lair, so you are going to run into them.
  • A tradition has developed in Ardanyan where initiates (circle 1) are considered to be apprentices to their masters. They are expected to attend their masters until they become novices (circle 2) or they are released by their masters. We will discuss who your master is during the character creation session. Your master will have an effect on where your character lives.
  • If you can come up with a way that the characters know each other, that would be spiffy. Obviously it will be easier to come up with a reason for the characters that live in the same hall.
  • Because  of the nature of the game, your character has to have a desire to get out and do things.
  • Also, your character has to have at least some heroic tendencies.

Errata

  • When crafting ammunition, the time it takes to make them is based on the size of the weapon, not the size and damage step (PG 95)
  • When raising your attribute it costs an average of current Attribute step x 10 sp per DAY not week of training.

Optional Rules used

  • Spell Learning Cost - Magician's will generally charge Circle x 100 sp to copy a spell from their grimoire. (PG 132)
  • Realigning Durability - Multidiscipline characters can switch to a better durability talent. (PG 243)
  • Enduring Armor by Strength - Use the mystic armor column of of the Characteristics table (PG 28) to determine how much your character's strength aids in eliminating the initiative penalty of armor and shields. (PG 254)

Namegiver's strength for this rule is modified as follows:

Dwarfs -2

Obsidimen -8

Orks -3

Trolls -4

Windlings +6

  • Blood Charm Depatterning - Excessive blood charm use can cause the death of the adept using them.

House Rules

  • Please keep your character up to date on the wiki. I've created a simplified character sheet to make that easier.
  • Writing a journal is worth +10% legend points per session. The journal should be written from your character's point of view and should be on the wiki. Additionally, the Great Library of Throal accepts adventurers journals during a two month period every year. Those that are complete or mostly complete will get your character money and additional legend points. However, I am not going to require that anyone write a journal.
  • Talents that require the expenditure of a karma point do not get the karma die. Using the karma point merely fuels the use of the talent. If the talent is a discipline talent the adept still has the option of spending a karma point to roll the karma die.
  • Legend points are going to be earned in five different ways.
    • A lump sum for everyone who shows up based on what was accomplished during the session. This will be the largest part of the total.
    • Individual awards for especially clever ideas or heroic deeds that are in character and help to accomplish the group's goals. I'll ask for suggestions at the end of each session.
    • +10% of the previous two if you write a journal on the wiki for the session.
    • +10% of the first two by adding something cool to the wiki that is related to the session. Basically if you put some effort into making something that adds to the game, you'll be rewarded. An example would be a map of the area you are exploring. This should be original work.
    • A special bonus if your character brings a complete or nearly complete journal to the Great Library of Throal during the months of Sollus and Riag. I will have to adapt the rules from the Player's Guide since they are for a group journal, but it will be significant.  You actually have to have written the journal, see point 2 above. This does mean your character will earn legend points twice for writing a journal.
  • Electronic devices are going to be banned at the table also if I ask what your are doing and you have to ask what is going on, your character does nothing.

That is a decent one. It is a little cramped, but manages to have spaces for almost everything. The it seems to be missing is a space for the deflection bonus from your shield and helmet and isn't designed to be used for more than one discipline. On the other hand, the redbrick version is missing a space for languages and talent knacks.

This is a good copy/paste of the character creations section of the rules

Feel free to look at this map, but remember your characters aren't going to know anything about most of these areas.
