In 2069, The Horde arrived in Earth's solar system. It was your typical invasion nightmare, and within hours of the first attack, the technologically advanced aliens had beat down all of Earth's defenses, and proceeded to lord over the planet as its new masters.

Viewing the Earth as a resource that could be plundered; instead of completely conquering the planet, they allowed the infrastructure to remain.

In 2072, humanity's hope came in the perfection of the Moritui Process, by Dr. Kimmo Tuolema. This process allowed people that shared a specific genetic structure to have a new metabolism implanted over their original one, granting them unique superhuman powers. Unfortunately, in every case, the host body rejects the implanted metabolism. After an apparently random amount of time, the body violently self-destructs. In some cases, this self-destruction happened within minutes of the implantation, and in others, a full year has passed.

The first group, later referred to as "The Black Watch" consisted of 5 volunteer soldiers. Two of the members died before seeing active service. The last three successfully beat back a Horde raiding party in Cape Town, but did not survive the encounter.

Despite the death sentence that the process carries with it, the list of volunteers willing to become weapons of humanity is long.
