When he was but a boy his entire family died of scarlet fever leaving young Robert as the sole heir to the Keaton fortune. Enamored, enthralled and obsessed with alchemists such as Cornelius Agrippa, Paracelsus, and Albertus Magnus, he longed to discover the fabled elixir of life - vowing that no one's family would ever again die.
A dozen years of failure nearly wreck his mind and fortune and he becomes a recluse. Several years later he regains interest in science after seeing the remains of a tree struck by lightning. Realizing the true potential of electrical power he refocuses his efforts to discover an elixir of life (of sorts) through artificial creationism! Robert's crazy madman genius has developed a particular aptitude for steam powered technology. Armed with a vast array of steam powered gadgetry he has recently finished work on his masterpiece - Mr. Irons, the world's first steam powered intelligence!
