Return to Kingdom Under Seige
"Where do you live? Describe your home. Describe your neighbors. How large is it? Do you own it (and the land)? How much furniture or non-adventuring equipment do you have? how did you get your home? how long have you lived there? Does anyone else live there? What pains do you take to keep it secure?"

Ryvven (replied Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 12:21 PM)
Ryv lives in the nobles district, in what is a relatively modest home. In years past Ryv called upon long time friends Telrandir and Jamlusrien (though calling Jammy a friend is a stretch), to plant, age, and shape some trees into a spacious home that blends nicely into its surroundings. So while the nature of the home is obviously magical (though low key, no flying treant guards), the land is mundanely cultivated into flower and rock gardens. Understated elegance is the defining theme, with spare rooms enough to hold a number of guests. The furnishings are of crystal and marble, exotic but subtle. The house befits a retired adventurer that has settled into a life of diplomatic and political debate.
The grounds are kept personally by Ryv when not on 'diplomatic' assignment away from Myth Dranor (Prestidigitation is your friend). When he is away he pays to have the place kept up.
Below the surface, as with most things related to Ryv, is completely different. Winding into the root cellar, someone with the appropriate knowledge and skill can gain access to Ryvven's private sanctum. Here are the treasures and trophies, gaudy artwork and statuary one would expect from a continent-roaming thief. From large things such as a stuffed black dragon, to smaller more personally important items such as the glasssteel cased pair of knives and spellbook from before the latest magical upheaval in Toril. A collection of holy symbols from good and neutral dieties fills a good portion of one wall, each of precious metals and gemstones. A single weapon, in a place of honor, adorns one wall; A strangely shaped longsword of alien metal, shot through with pulsing veins of bluish energy. (Since the latest magical shift, these items have lost any game effect)
Before the magical upheaval robbed Ryv of his spellcasting, he had created golems to guard his treasures while he was away. Only one such construct still exists, a marble stone golem shaped as a beautiful elven woman in leaf-patterned platemail. Other protections are mundane and arcane locks, with the obnoxious part being the magically shaped shell of adamantite surrounding (below and on all sides) the sanctum. A few mundane traps are scattered around, poison darts, spike traps, etc.
Arust (replied Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 1:59 PM)
Arust is homeless and landless, but in that same regard he considers the forest of Cormanthor his home. He owns neither it nor the land. While on the road or traveling the forest, he keeps a cold camp, only with a group will he make a fire. He makes his fire to concel the smoke and flame, generally in a hole under a tree. It is a small fire, that requires constant attention, but can be put out in mere seconds. He carries what he owns and sleeps on the ground, on a blanket, or under the shelter of a tree or leantoo, as dictated by the weather. He generally picks high ground, but not on a ridge line, so he will have unobstructed view of 180 to 270 degrees around him. In a pinch, he might set a noise maker trap up on the ridgeline. In the past, he generally spends spring and fall making cabins in the forest, simple ten by ten or ten by fifteen log cabins. But the forests of Cormanthor are not safe enough for that. While in the High Forest, he made a chain of a dozen or so, about a half days walk from each other in a string along his frontier. Its been probably five years since he's seen any of them. He no longer maintains them, and never really considered them his. They were made for the elves and rangers of that area. If someone hasn't taken to caring for them, they'll have fallen into disrepair. But he could find and spruce them up in no time. When he left them, they each had some pots, a large jug for water, a flint and steel, some spear heads, an axe, and a hand axe. They would have been left with about twelve cords of wood. Dry wood would be clumped high in surrounding trees to keep it off the ground, and so it would be ready to use. Arust does cut trees. Think of Arust as a mountain man. Just one without a cabin at the moment because the forest is darn dangerous.
When in Myth Drannor he sleeps at Elloth's rented house. It is the upstairs of a dress makers house (Selvestri's Golden Seams), the old Eladrin lady lives alone after the death of her husband during the Crusade to retake M-D. She's friendly, and outgoing, but a hermit by nature. There is no real reason for this other than the sadness in her heart. The furniture in the house came with it, and Elloth owns none of it. As a typical adventurer, she carries what she owns. Her palfry is kept at one of the liveries (Bolabi's Bit and Briddle) of M-D and is out in a pasture every day (which is the norm for M-D, which has abundant space and low population). The apartment is small, a bedroom and a kitchen/living/dining room adjoin. There is a door to the hall, a door to the neighbors, and a door to the porch. Five double windows dot two exterior walls (two walls are interior). In the bedroom there is a bed, some chairs, a table, and a wardrobe. The next room has a more rough table with benchs next to a small ceramic stove. On the side of that room facing the porch, there are some couches and pillows for relaxing. Fruits and dry goods hang around the room, and a bag of potatoes and orions are usually on the counter next to the spices. Arust has no posessions except for his single set of semi-nice clothes there. Elloth has a good deal of clothes there, some jewelry, but it would all fit on her horse. The food is hers, but she would be ready to leave it. None of the housewares are hers, she considers them the owners, even if she bought them (because it was to replace a worn one that was there when she moved in). The only "security" they have is GD, and locks on the windows and a bar on the hall door and the adjacent neighbors door. Lanterns light the room, about a dozen small ones.
Gnolldeath sleeps wherever Arust is, and rarely makes a den for the winter (he hasn't in 5 years). If Arust is gone and has left him behind, GD will sleep in the front entryway of Elloth's. If they're off together and have left him alone, he'll either camp outside her house or wander out to the forest and pick a nice berry patch to sleep (and eat) in.
Tharivol (Replied Wed, Jun 17, 2009 at 7:19 PM)
I don't actually see Tharivol as having a home. He just lives in the woods. He spends his time visiting villages and towns throughout Myth Drannor as he patrols. He would also hang out with loners that also live in the woods.
Flick
Flick is living in Myth Drannor more to sort out his thoughts and mind more than anything else. He figured this would be a place to find peace and tranquility. He has no family here and few friends. His friends mostly consist of several of the dwarves here though due to his exploits in the East Rift. He has met a group of adventurers lately, and although he doesn't count them friends as yet, he can tell they are all good people.
He lives by himself in a modest apartment towards the east of town. He doesn't feel he needs a lot of space, and being a gnome a little space goes a long way. His place is only sparsely decorated. He has a very basic kitchen with a small wood stove. He isn't much of a cook, but knows enough to get by. His diet usually consists of root vegitables and some meats. He really likes mushrooms and usually has a basket of them on-hand at all times. Most of his furniture is gnome sized, but he has a few chairs that are "normal-people" sized. He keeps his adventuring gear in a non-discript trunk at the foot of his bed, but his axe is too large for said trunk and is kept under his bed. He has a small den loaded with books and trinkets from his spelunking days. He spends his days reading about lore and poetry in different languages and writing essays and theorems about history and ruins and such. He also binds books as a hobby. Mostly blank tombs, but he has put some of his ideas down to paper. He makes a small amount of coin doing so, enough to get by.
